Ringtones truly bring life to a mobile phone. Tones built-in with mobile phones are common to every unit, of low quality, does not sound enticing, and less melodic. For these reasons we need to modify or customized these tones to our desires. We must choose the right ringtone that can reflect who we are, what we want to listen to, and what we want others to think of us.
There are several ways that we can download a ringtone. Downloading tones from a network provider is an option, but it’s sometimes a paid services. Sending tones through known connections such as SMS, infrared and Bluetooth is another option. Lastly there is free download where we can look for websites hosting this type of service for free.
Purchasing a ringtone from a network provider requires a minimum payment of $2.99 per tone. This includes the payment for the service of sending the tone and the cost of the actual ringtone itself. This is done through SMS request where a key is entered representing the tone that a user wants to download. After successfully downloading the tone, this can be stored on the mobile phone to permanently make it a part of the system. A user may be able to send this tone to anybody, but may cause some legal issues.
With regard to the second option, it is required that a user must possess the tone before being able to send it through SMS, infrared or Bluetooth. This can be done from a mobile phone to a mobile phone. This means that one user can purchase a tone and distribute it to anybody for free. It’s not a good advice since it does not help the promotion of the tone.
Lastly, one can download free tones from thousands of websites over the Internet. There are so many websites offering these type of service for free and anybody from anywhere can download these tones. Unlike the tones downloaded from a network provider, tones from these websites need extra work to fit on a mobile phone. These tones need to be downloaded to a user’s computer and upload it to a mobile phone by using the wire designed for the phone.
This is good since it’s free for all to download, but the downside is awful. There are numerous sites claiming to offer free downloadable tones. Some of these sites are not up to offering a user free downloadable tone. The downloaded tones may contain scripts that can damage a computer when run. This is the most painful effect when downloading free stuff from the Internet without checking. In addition, not all tones are compatible on every mobile phone. Some phones may not be able to play the tone due to some restrictions with the file extension. An example is a melody for an iPhone. Ordinary melody downloaded tone for Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, and other mobile phones may not be able to fit on an iPhone since it has a different file extension for ringtones.
As a mobile phone user, we are responsible for our own action. So if you think downloading free tones can better than buying it, then there are thousands of help over the Internet. But if you think that tones from service providers are better, then you can start buying your tone.
